ADMISSIONS FAQ
What is Dunwoody’s admissions deadline?
Dunwoody College offers rolling admissions. This means we accept students up to a year before the semester starts all the way until the day before the semester starts. There is no set deadline.
However, majors are filled on a first-come, first-serve basis. You should apply to Dunwoody as early as you are able to, and we highly recommend:
- apply in fall or winter for the following fall semester, which starts in late August
- apply in summer or fall for those majors that also have a spring semester start
Applying early is especially recommended for high-demand programs like electrical and HVAC.
There is one exception to the above: Radiologic Technology has an application deadline of February 1 for the fall semester start and July 1 for the spring semester start.
How do I apply to Dunwoody?
Register or log in to Dunwoody’s Admission Portal and follow the instructions to fill out the application. Information you will need to apply include things like your contact info, the program/major you want to apply for, any high schools or other colleges you attended, etc.
Note that you can save the application and come back to it later if there is information you need to track down.
For a more detailed explanation, visit our Apply page.
Does Dunwoody offer early admissions?
Dunwoody College does not offer early admissions. This is because we offer rolling admissions and accept students into their majors on a first-come, first-serve basis.
We do encourage prospective students to apply as early as possible in order to be able to take full advantage of some of our scholarship offerings, which we start awarding in March. Prospective students who apply early are also able to take advantage of special events for admitted students, including classroom connection visits during the school year, Dinner at Dunwoody in January, and various industry visits in late spring and summer.
What should I do if I don’t know what I want to major in?
One of the advantages Dunwoody College offers is that you are accepted into your major and start learning the fundamentals of it your first semester.
Your best approach is to have a conversation with your Admissions Counselor to talk through your options. In addition, attending an open house or setting up a personalized tour and meeting with faculty and seeing the spaces you’ll be learning in can help you decide on a major.
Some departments may offer pathways where you can easily switch to a related major after your first or second semester. You may also be able to take a semester of arts and sciences courses. But to give yourself your best shot at success, it’s best to explore your major options sooner rather than later.
How do I know who my Admissions Counselor is?
If you’ve RSVPed for an open house or other event, or filled out a request for information form, or started (or completed) an application, then you’ve been assigned an Admissions Counselor. You can view their information by logging into the Admisisons Portal and scrolling down. Or if you haven’t set that up yet, register as a new user.
If you’ve done any of the above and can’t figure it out, please email hello@dunwoody.edu or call us at 612-574-5800.
If you haven’t connected with Dunwoody yet, please fill out the Request for Information form or RSVP for an Open House.

Does Dunwoody offer vocational training?
Dunwoody College offers certificates and degrees in several fields that tend to be grouped under the term “vocational.”
From a larger perspective, all of Dunwoody’s programs are vocational in that every major the College offers is intended to teach you the technical, communication, critical thinking, and creative skills required to pursue a vocation, which simply means a career in a specific field.
Whether it’s called vocational training or career training or our preference — technical education — Dunwoody College’s mission is to provide an education that gets you ready to pursue a great career in the industries that hire STEM, technical, and creative professionals.
Is Dunwoody a trade school?
The term “trade school” has typically been applied to institutions that provide shorter term, career-specific training for specialized trades and technical jobs. They typically lead to a certificate and not a college degree. Dunwoody College is a technical college and not a trade school. That being said: several of the majors we offer are the same as those often found at trade schools. This includes electrical, HVAC, automotive repair, graphic design, machining, estimating, welding, and more. The best way to think about Dunwoody College is that we offer the level of training and degree you need in order to get a job in a technical field. This ranges from a bachelor’s degree in engineering or architecture to a one-year certificate in electronics or welding.
Dunwoody also offers pathways for those who have worked or are currently working in the trades to get further education to transition to a different phase of their career, including several bachelor’s completion degrees.
Our full suite of offerings can be explored on our Academics home page.
Does Dunwoody charge out-of-state tuition?
Dunwoody is a private, not-for-profit college. It is not a public college. This means that Dunwoody College charges the same tuition to students regardless of which state they are a resident of. Many of our Minnesota students do receive grants from the State of Minnesota’s Office of Higher Education.
International students may have additional fees. Visit the International Students page for more information.
