Newkirk Learning Commons

The Newkirk Learning Commons provides you with the print and electronic resources needed to complete research papers and other projects for your classes. They also provide quiet spaces for study as well as collaboration spaces for when working on team projects.

Learning Commons staff are here to help you:

  • Find information needed to complete coursework
  • Navigate both print and electronic resources
  • Develop greater informational literacy
  • Improve your understanding of the academic disciplines and industries you are studying
  • Support for English language learner students
  • Learn writing fundamentals and research skills

The Learning Commons is also committed to offering informational resources and educational support to faculty and staff.

Located on the Blue Level, the Newkirk Learning Commons supports students and faculty through its resources and services. Resources include a book and reference collection (both ebook and print), online databases, newspapers, periodicals, individual study spaces (some with electrical outlets for device charging), group study stations (including monitors), group study rooms, and a printer/copy machine.

Borrowing Policies and Procedures

Borrowing privileges are available to Dunwoody College of Technology students, faculty, staff, and alumni with valid identification.

Circulation Loan Policies

  1. All circulating materials must be checked out at the Circulation Desk in the Learning Commons.
  2. Faculty and staff may check out most circulating materials and resources for the entire semester with approval from Learning Resources staff.
  3. Students may checkout most circulating materials for 21 days (renewals are allowed).
  4. Overnight circulation to students for certain course reserve materials is available with instructor’s permission and library staff approval.
  5. Alumni may checkout circulating materials and resources for 21 days.
  6. Reference resources do not circulate.
  7. Certain types A/V equipment may be checked out, but cannot leave campus. Consult Learning Resources staff for specifics regarding A/V equipment. For information on all other A/V materials, patrons should contact the IT Department.
  8. Access to Library Electronic Databases is restricted to current students, staff, and faculty due to vendor licensing agreements.

Study Room Guidelines and Procedures

  1. Check in with Learning Resources staff or student workers for study room use.
  2. Check out is for two (2) hours or less at a time.
  3. Study rooms are available daily on a first come, first serve basis.
  4. Renewals are allowed if no other request for use has been made.
  5. Be considerate of others in regards to disruptive behaviors.
  6. Noise cancelling headphones are available at the Circulation Desk.
  7. Problems with the space or equipment should be reported to the Circulation Desk.
  8. Learning Commons General Guidelines apply to study rooms
  9. Study rooms are available for use by Dunwoody College of Technology students, faculty, and staff
  10. Student projects take preference over staff/faculty with dedicated offices and/or classrooms

Book Donations

Dunwoody College of Technology gratefully accepts in-kind donations of used or new printed materials to be considered for inclusion in the Learning Resources’ collections. Acceptance of donations is based on Dunwoody’s academic and curricular missions and in accordance with the Library’s Collection Development Policy.
