Dunwoody Welding & Metal Fabrication

Take your metal fabrication and welding skills to the next level and prepare for a dynamic career in advanced fabrication and manufacturing. Dunwoody’s Welding & Metal Fabrication associate’s degree builds on core welding techniques while adding machining, fabrication, and engineering fundamentals to broaden your expertise and job opportunities.

In your first year, you’ll train in Dunwoody’s state-of-the-art welding lab, learning industry-standard welding processes including Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW), and Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW). You’ll also gain experience in oxyacetylene and plasma cutting, and you will have the opportunity to earn up to four AWS D1.1 welding certifications.

Your second year begins in Dunwoody’s advanced machine shop, where you’ll develop skills in engineering drawing, manual milling, and turning. As you progress, you’ll head back to the weld shop to take on more complex fabrication work, creating custom-built projects that are both engaging and technically demanding. This hands-on experience in both machining and welding fabrication prepares you for a wide range of careers in metal fabrication, manufacturing, and industrial production.

The program’s curriculum is closely aligned with industry standards set by both the American Welding Society (AWS) and the National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS), ensuring you graduate with the in-demand skills employers value.

This associate’s degree directly transfers into Dunwoody’s Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering Technology.
