Dunwoody Power & Construction Engineering Technology
The construction industry is looking for professionals who have electrical engineering training that specifically focuses on the built environment, especially energy engineering. This increased need is due to new technologies such as:
- renewable energy systems
- smart buildings
- new construction design and management technologies
- integrative field technologies (which allow data from the field to be pulled into construction software)
Unlike a traditional four-year electrical engineering degrees, which tend to focus more on smaller scale electronics, the Dunwoody’s bachelor’s completion degree in Power & Construction Engineering Technology provides an applied emphasis on power systems engineering — engineering design of electrical systems for utilities and electrical construction.
This flexible, online program is specifically geared for graduates or transfer students from electrical design, estimating, or construction associate degree programs who are want to move into more senior positions.
Students without a previous degree should enroll first in one of Dunwoody’s two-year electrical programs — Electrical Construction Design & Management or Electrical Construction & Maintenance — which has the added benefit of allowing you to work in the field while finishing your Power & Construction Engineering Technology degree.
Learning is project-based with an emphasis on best practices in industry and emerging topics in the field, including renewable energies and Internet of Things (IoT). Both medium and high voltage systems are taught.
You will also become familiar with or increase your skills in industry-standard software, including Microstation, Revit, Accubid, Microsoft Suite, Bluebeam, Civil 3D, Visual Studio, and Navisworks.
Completing a senior capstone project in your final semester with an emphasis on either commercial buildings, utilities, or both will allow you to demonstrate industry-relevant experience to a current or future employer.
International Students
This program is an official STEM Designated Degree Program, as listed by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) qualifying it to fulfill the STEM Optional Practical Training (OPT) extension requirement for the F-1 student visa.
