Dunwoody Spring term sees enrollment increase

Upward trend reflects strong interest in the skilled trades and technical fields

Dunwoody College of Technology’s Spring Semester began on January 26, and the College once again saw an increase in its student population. Official enrollment for the semester landed at 1,546, a 4.7 percent year-over-year increase, making this year the largest spring enrollment in more than a decade.

The numbers were driven by a 24.7 percent jump in new student enrollment, demonstrating continued interest in degrees in the skilled trades and technical fields.

The growing interest in the degree pathways offered at Dunwoody comes as no surprise to Director of Admissions Cynthia McDonald: “When we talk with students about their higher education options, there is a definite trend in what they are looking for: a hands-on learning environment, clear career pathways, and a strong return on their investment. And these are things that Dunwoody delivers with ease.”

This spring, nearly every academic area at the College saw an enrollment increase, with Dunwoody’s School of Engineering (computer, electrical, and mechanical engineering) leading the way with 11 percent growth.

By program, Electrical Construction & Maintenance, Architecture, and Construction Project Management have the largest spring enrollment numbers. And Dunwoody’s Automotive Service Technology program saw one of the biggest increases, growing by 15 percent year-over-year.

Typically described as non-traditional students, spring semester enrollees are often those who are transferring from another college, returning for a bachelor’s degree, or changing careers. Many non-traditional students are also seeking flexible learning options, including online and evening classes. This spring, Dunwoody’s online-only student population grew by 7 percent year-over-year, and the number of students pursuing a plus-two bachelor’s degree, grew by 21 percent.

“It’s exciting to see students back in our labs, shops, and studios for the spring semester,” McDonald said. “The personal connections our faculty and staff build with students is not only why they choose Dunwoody, but also why they stay. Ensuring students feel prepared and supported from enrollment through graduation and beyond is something everyone at the College is committed to. Dunwoody graduates are some of the most sought-after in their fields, because they are some of the most prepared. They leave here work-ready, determined to make a difference on the job and in their industry.”
