Dunwoody now offers four degree programs with ABET accreditation
Dunwoody College of Technology, a private, non-profit institution and leader in hands-on, technical education, is proud to announce that its Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering has earned accreditation from the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET.
ABET is a nonprofit, ISO 9001-certified organization and a global leader in quality assurance for higher education programs in the science, technology, engineering, and math disciplines. Developed by technical professionals from ABET’s member societies, ABET criteria focuses on what students experience and learn.
The Electrical Engineering program earned ABET accreditation during the organization’s most recent accreditation cycle. As a program earning initial accreditation, that accreditation action extends retroactively to October 1, 2022, applying to all past graduates from the program.
“Engineers are sought-after professionals who work in nearly every industry to move ideas from concept to creation,” said Dunwoody President Scott Stallman, Ph.D. “ABET sets a high bar, and earning accreditation is recognition that our curriculum, faculty, and facilities meet their rigorous standards. This recognition will attract more students interested in Dunwoody’s time-tested approach to preparing graduates to start contributing on day one.”
During the review process and site visit, Dunwoody’s Electrical Engineering degree program was evaluated on its educational objectives, student outcomes, continuous improvement, curriculum, faculty, and facilities to ensure it meets a global standard for technical education and the engineering profession. Reviews are conducted by teams of highly skilled professionals from industry, academia, and government with expertise in the ABET disciplines.
Earning ABET Accreditation also means that students interested in pursuing their Professional Engineering Licensure are able to do so.
“The ABET accreditation process ensures that programs in the technical disciplines such as engineering meet rigorous educational and workforce-aligned standards,” said Noureen Sajid, Academic Director for the School of Engineering. “Earning accreditation provides current and future students assurance that Dunwoody’s program meets the same rigorous standards as all other ABET-accredited engineering programs.”
Recognized worldwide, ABET’s voluntary peer-review process is highly respected for the critical value it adds to academic programs in the technical disciplines, where quality, precision, and safety are of the utmost importance.
“As our world becomes more digital and inter-connected, the need for skilled professionals in the field of Electrical Engineering will continue to expand,” said Academic Dean E.J. Daigle, Ed.D. “Dunwoody is committed to providing an educational experience that prepares graduates for this rapidly evolving field. This includes mastering the technical proficiencies needed on the job, along with developing the skills to collaborate, problem-solve, and manage projects from concept to completion.”
