Jason Hetland, Dunwoody Alum, Veteran and Entrepreneur

Jason Hetland graduated from Dunwoody College in 2023 with a bachelor’s degree in Business Management & Leadership after earning his associates degree in Graphic Design & Production in 2021. On top of having his own business, Hetland is starting a new position with Disabled American Veterans©, a cause deeply important to him.

His nine and a half years in the military profoundly influenced his dedication to education. He was drawn to Dunwoody for its strong technical, hands-on approach, which perfectly matched his learning style. Additionally, government support guided him to Dunwoody, thanks to the College’s commitment to supporting veteran students.

Hetland is immensely grateful for his experiences at Dunwoody and the knowledge and skills he gained both inside and outside the classroom.

“It would be amazing if everyone could have experiences like I did at Dunwoody,” he said.

He also emphasizes that Dunwoody is much more than a learning space; on campus, he found support and a sense of belonging among other students and campus communities.

Hetland utilized the skills he learned at Dunwoody and founded his own sports pro-announcer company. Today, Hetland and Associates announces for 17 sports teams across the Twin Cities metro area. He credits his readiness to enter the workforce and his entrepreneurial drive to his education at Dunwoody and his dedication as a military veteran.

“Long-term, my goal is to be recognized as one of the top voices in the Twin Cities for sporting events,” he said. “Additionally, I aim to establish a nonprofit where announcers can share their successes and where both seasoned and aspiring announcers can grow together. There is truly nothing like it in the Midwest.”

Hetland’s story is another great example of the entrepreneurial spirit that lives and thrives at Dunwoody. No matter the field, Dunwoody graduates leave with the ability to solve problems and get things done.
