Alumnus and long-time educator will address the Class of 2024 on May 21
Dunwoody College of Technology, a private, non-profit institution and leader in technical education, is proud to announce that Benito Matias, a 1993 graduate of Dunwoody’s Engineering Drafting & Design program, former YCAP Program Manager, and current Ascension Catholic School Principal, will deliver the keynote address during this year’s Commencement Exercises.
The College will honor the graduating Class of 2024 at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 21, at the Minneapolis Convention Center.

ABOUT BENITO MATIAS
Benito Matias has worked in the field of education for nearly 30 years, the last 17 of which have been as a school administrator.
His educational work has included being a Dunwoody College of Technology Instructor, a Minneapolis Public School District teacher, and a K-12 school administrator.
Born and raised in Minneapolis; Matias is a graduate of Patrick Henry high school (now Camden High School), Dunwoody College of Technology, Bemidji State University, and Saint Mary’s University where he earned a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership.
In 1988, Matias was selected to participate in the first cohort of the Youth Career Awareness Program (which has now transitioned to Pathways to Careers) at Dunwoody. Then as a YCAP Scholarship recipient, Matias enrolled in the Engineering Drafting & Design program. After graduating in 1993, Matias went on to work for the College in several roles, including as YCAP program manager and as executive director of Dunwoody Academy, a charter school the College sponsored from 2006 to 2011.
Benito joined the team at Ascension Catholic School in 2013 to serve as the Dean of Students and was named Principal of Ascension Catholic School in January of 2016, where he continues to serve the North Minneapolis community.
