U.S. News rankings based on academic quality and graduate success
U.S. News & World Report released its annual “Best Colleges” rankings on Tuesday, Sept. 22, and Dunwoody College of Technology, a leader in hands-on, applied education, once again made the list. The rankings provide a data-driven comparison of more than 1,700 colleges and universities using up to 17 measures of academic quality and graduate success.
On the 2027 list, Dunwoody earned recognition in five categories, including as the number two college in the Midwest region for Veterans. In addition, Dunwoody was named to the Best Regional Colleges – Midwest list, Best Value Schools – Midwest, Best Undergraduate Engineering Programs, and Top Private Schools.
Best Regional Colleges – Midwest
This year, Dunwoody earned the No. 28 spot on the list for Best Regional Colleges – Midwest. To be considered for the category, colleges must focus on undergraduate education but grant fewer than half their degrees in liberal arts disciplines. The rankings are split into four regions: North, South, Midwest, and West.
Best Colleges for Veterans – Midwest
Dunwoody College moved up to the No. 2 spot in the Midwest for Best Colleges for Veterans, which identifies schools that make pursuing a college education more affordable for veterans and active-duty service members. Schools are only included in the 2027 edition of the Best Colleges for Veterans ranking if they meet the following criteria: the institution is certified for the GI Bill and the institution participates in the Yellow Ribbon Program or is a public school. In addition, colleges must have enrolled a minimum of 20-full-time and part-time undergraduate veterans and active-duty service members in the 2025-2026 academic year and be ranked in the top half of one of the 2027 Best Colleges ranking categories to be included on the list.
Top Private Colleges – Midwest
For the first time, Dunwoody College was named to the Top Private Colleges – Midwest list, coming in at No. 26. To be eligible, colleges be included in the 2027 Best Colleges list and must be funded entirely by non-government sources like tuition, endowments, and alumni gifts.
Best Value Colleges – Midwest
Dunwoody College was also once again ranked as one of the Best Value Colleges in the Midwest, coming in at No. 25. This ranking takes into account a school’s academic quality, as indicated by its 2027 U.S. News Best Colleges ranking, and the 2025-2026 net cost of attendance for an out-of-state student who received the average level of need-based scholarship or grant aid. Only schools ranked in or near the top half of other categories were included.
Best Undergraduate Engineering Programs – Nationwide
For the third time since launching Dunwoody’s School of Engineering, the College made the ranking for Best Undergraduate Engineering Programs. Rankings are based on peer assessment surveys, and to appear on the survey a school must have an undergraduate engineering program accredited by ABET. Schools listed are colleges whose highest engineering degree offered is a bachelor’s or master’s.
To be included in the Best Colleges list, institutions must meet the following criteria:
- Have a significant baccalaureate degree focus.
- Hold regional accreditation.
- Offer campus-based education.
