How long have you worked at Dunwoody?
1 year
How would you explain what you do for a living to a 5-year-old?
I meet new people every day and get to know them so I can help them figure out what to study here at Dunwoody. I also help them get ready to start school like getting their textbooks, helping them find their classrooms, and answering any questions they have about the school.
What are you a huge fan of?
I am a huge fan of going to antique malls! Even if I don’t buy something, I walk around and think about the people that used to own these items and if they loved them as much as someone else will. I am also a huge fan of cooking! Cooking for my people is my number one way to show my love.
What genre of books do you enjoy, and do you have any recommendations?
I am currently leaning heavily into romantasy (romance + fantasy) and am listening to the Throne of Glass series! Listening to books is way easier for me and helps me follow the story better.
If money and time were no object, what would you spend more of your time doing?
I would spend more time travelling to see family I haven’t seen in years.
What is one of your favorite traditions?
Growing up, every Christmas Eve my grandma would make a cheddar and leek soup and bierocks (rolls stuffed with beef, cabbage, and cheese). We would all meet at my grandparents’ house and eat while opening presents. We sadly haven’t done this since my grandmother passed, but I hope to bring it back when I start my family.
What is a personal object you keep at your desk that has a good story behind it?
I have a lamp with a stained glass lampshade that I got from my husband’s cabin before we had to sell it earlier this year. That lampshade has been in the cabin since it was built in the 50s!
What makes you laugh?
My husband. He is the funniest person I know!
What is one piece of advice you’ve gotten that you still think about?
If it isn’t adding to your life, it’s subtracting.
What is something you could brag about, but you don’t (unless an online form asks you)?
I was one of the first people at my university to graduate with my specific degree and minor combination!
Intriguing! What was the combination?
I graduated from Iowa State University with a BS in Anthropology and a minor in Middle Eastern Studies! It was a super interesting combination that stemmed from my trip to Qatar when I was in high school while competing with Destination Imagination.
At ISU, Anthropology majors had to declare a minor as part of the graduation requirement, and I had made it about halfway through without declaring anything yet. I had filled my electives with other Middle Eastern Studies classes like a literature class and a culture class as well as learning the language. When the college had decided to offer this as a minor, I was about 75 percent of the way done with it! It was all lucky timing, and I am super proud.
