Dunwoody Earns NIMS Reaccreditation

Accreditation gives students access to industry certifications

Dunwoody College of Technology, a leader in hands-on, applied technical education, is excited to announce that its Machine Tool Technology Program has officially earned the NIMS reaccreditation.

NIMS accreditation is the nation’s only distinction for excellence in manufacturing training and is based on their industry-written, industry-approved standards. To earn accreditation, programs must demonstrate the ability to produce skilled, work-ready individuals that fulfill industry’s 21st Century workforce needs.

“Dunwoody’s Machine Tool Technology program has been accredited through NIMS since 2014,” said Alex Wong, Director of the Engineering Drafting & Design and Machine Tool Technology programs. “This accreditation is a testament to the high quality of our academic program and its alignment with current industry standards. It also allows us to offer NIMS industry certifications, which provides a direct benefit to our students as they seek employment in the workforce.”

Following a rigorous examination of the program, its academic coursework, and learning environment, Dunwoody’s program was accredited for another five years.

About Machine Tool Technology

The Machine Tool Technology program is a two-year, Associate of Applied Science degree that prepares students for the field of precision manufacturing. Students learn manual and computer-controlled machining in a state-of-the-industry machine tool facility. Graduates leave the program with the skills needed to program and operate the machine tools used in today’s advanced manufacturing facilities.

Students complete hands-on projects on both manual machines and those using advanced manufacturing processes, including CNC (computer numeric controlled) turning, CNC milling, wire EDM (electrical discharge machining), and sinker EDM. Due to high demand in industry, most machine tool students find full-time employment in the field prior to graduation.
