Larrabee Presented with Distinguished Teacher Award

Longtime Construction Management faculty Rick Larrabee was awarded a 2023 Distinguished Teacher Award at the all-staff meeting and End of School Year Celebration on May 23. This award is given to a faculty member who has committed a significant portion of their career to the art of teaching and who demonstrates an ongoing commitment to education and lifelong learning.

“Rick demonstrates our Dunwoody values,” said the panel that reviewed and selected this award, including the Provost and the President’s Cabinet. “He consistently looks at how to improve his curriculum, he treats students equally, and shows compassion when students are having challenges in their lives. He understands that it is critical to try different teaching methods, and questions the status quo.”

Heather S. Gay, Director of Construction Sciences & Business Management, said, “I’m surprised by Rick on a regular basis. He cares about what he teaches, and he cares about the students’ successes. He makes me challenge my own assumptions and makes me want to bring my best to Dunwoody.”

One of the many comments included in the review stated “When I think of a faculty that brings excellence every day to the classroom and the people around him, I think of Rick Larrabee. Rick has the practical work experience and academic experience that shows his commitment to our students.”
