Ric Chantry built his career as a construction electrician after graduating from Dunwoody\u2019s Electrical Construction program in 1977. Originally from Nebraska, he came to Dunwoody as an out-of-state student.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cDunwoody gave me the foundational education\u2014along with friendships and knowledge\u2014that carried me through life,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During his career, Chantry worked for a variety of contractors through the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 292 in Minneapolis. He eventually retired from the Monticello Nuclear Power Plant, a milestone that held special meaning for him as both his father and older brother also had careers in nuclear engineering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Fifteen years ago, Chantry was invited to join the alumni board.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt felt like an opportunity to give back to the institute that gave me so much,\u201d he said. \u201cDunwoody provided the education that helped me achieve goals I didn\u2019t even know I had.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He remains passionate about expanding access to education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThere are so many young people\u2014and even those mid-career\u2014who need the opportunity to learn but don\u2019t have the means,\u201d Chantry said. \u201cScholarships open that door.
