{"id":6970,"date":"2023-08-17T14:52:08","date_gmt":"2023-08-17T19:52:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/?p=6970"},"modified":"2023-08-17T14:52:09","modified_gmt":"2023-08-17T19:52:09","slug":"school-of-design-students-win-first-place","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/2023\/school-of-design-students-win-first-place\/","title":{"rendered":"School of Design Students Win First Place"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Three School of Design students earned a first-place win in the national 2023 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aiccbox.org\/page\/StudentDesign\">AICC Packaging Design Competition<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Their entry, \u201cDIYAY,\u201d bested others in the Structural Design category including: Millersville University, Clemson University, University of Texas, California Polytechnic State University, and Appalachian State University \u2014 all four-year programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"979\" height=\"737\" src=\"https:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/PXL_20230619_225015182.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6972\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/PXL_20230619_225015182.png 979w, https:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/PXL_20230619_225015182-300x226.png 300w, https:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/PXL_20230619_225015182-768x578.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 979px) 100vw, 979px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>For the annual contest, students were asked to create a hardware shipping box for a fictional hardware store. The box needed to be structurally sound to keep its contents\u2014 consisting of four traditional 60-watt light bulbs, a 16-oz traditional hammer, and a box of nails \u2014 undamaged through the shipping process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Team members Kristin Benusa and Cory Williams graduated in May earning Associate of Applied Science degrees in <a href=\"https:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/design\/graphic-design\/\">Graphic Design &amp; Production<\/a>. Team member Xinh Beardmore will be entering her second year at Dunwoody in the fall. The two-year program combines design theory with project-based learning. Students gain hands-on experience in the printing and packaging lab and studios through projects from concept to completion. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"737\" height=\"979\" src=\"https:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/PXL_20230605_230914285.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6973\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/PXL_20230605_230914285.png 737w, https:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/PXL_20230605_230914285-226x300.png 226w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 737px) 100vw, 737px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Structural design is not every student&#8217;s cup of tea,\u201d said Adjunct Professor Pete Rivard, who retired from teaching full-time in May. \u201cThese three gravitated to CAD.
