{"id":6077,"date":"2021-11-23T09:57:59","date_gmt":"2021-11-23T15:57:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/?p=6077"},"modified":"2021-11-23T09:57:59","modified_gmt":"2021-11-23T15:57:59","slug":"a-future-electrician","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/2021\/a-future-electrician\/","title":{"rendered":"A future electrician"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Scholarship recipient wanted a career with a bright outlook<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When Denise Nickens was choosing a future career in the midst of a global pandemic she had a few requirements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAfter the pandemic I wanted a career that was reliable and stable,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd I also wanted to be able to make a good income.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was those requirements that led her to the high-demand, high-paying electrical career field. She is currently in her second year of the <a href=\"https:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/construction\/electrical-construction-maintenance\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Electrical Construction &amp; Maintenance<\/a> program, and is on track to graduate this May.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Richfield High School graduate heard about Dunwoody and that it was a top technical school from a former student.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhen choosing to go back to school &#8212; financially I was worried,\u201d Nickens said. \u201cBut receiving my scholarship took some of that burden off of me and helped me focus more on school, including getting good grades and graduating.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A recipient of the <a href=\"https:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/construction\/electrical-construction-maintenance\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Construction Career Pathways<\/a> scholarship program, Nickens said she is enjoying the hands-on learning and wants to join the electrical trade union after graduating and become a master electrician.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Currently Nickens works as a server at a restaurant, which doesn\u2019t leave a lot of time for relaxing outside of school, but she still encourages others to explore a career in a technical field, especially if it is a field that they enjoy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">About the Construction Career Pathways scholarship<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The Construction Career Pathway Scholarship is designed to prepare high potential, under served and under resourced individuals from a diverse population for lifelong careers as leaders, managers, and tradespeople in the construction industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s mission is to work with employers to provide industry education, mentorship, and financial support that will result in earning an associate\u2019s degree, successful employment, and a strong career development plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For more information about the scholarship qualifications or to download an application, click <a href=\"https:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/admission-aid\/scholarships\/construction-career-pathway-scholarship\/\">here<\/a>.  <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Scholarship recipient wanted a career with a bright outlook When Denise Nickens was choosing a future career in the midst of a global pandemic she had a few requirements. \u201cAfter the pandemic I wanted a career that was reliable and stable,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd I also wanted to be able to make a good income.\u201d [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":4,"featured_media":6078,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[178],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-6077","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-student-news"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.3 -
