From now until the end of January, the work of local BIPOC\nand women designers working in the built environment field will be on display\nat the 2021\nMinnesota SAY IT LOUD<\/a> juried exhibition. Dunwoody\u2019s Dean of the School of Design<\/a> Trevor Bullen, AIA,\nNOMA is one of those featured designers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Curated by New York-based architect Pascale Sablan FAIA,\nNOMA, LEED AP, the SAY IT LOUD juried exhibition at the Goldstein Museum of\nDesign (GMD) on the University of Minnesota campus, elevates the work of BIPOC\nand women designers and features participants from the region where it travels\nto. Sablan, founder and executive director of Beyond the Built Environment,\nstrives to increase representation in the field of design, which is\nquintessential to a mission that includes \u201c\u2026engaging community through\narchitecture to advocate equitable, reflectively diverse environments.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of the exhibition, Bullen will moderate a virtual\nSAY IT LOUD Panel Discussion around design and increasing representation at 6\np.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 9. The panelists will include: Jody McGuire, principal\narchitect-SALA, and adjunct professor at the University of Minnesota; Jennifer\nNewsom, artist, architect\/Co-founder-Dream The Combine, and Assistant Professor\nat Cornell APP; and Anna Pravinata, principal architect-Alliance Architecture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The juried exhibition is open Monday through Thursday from 8\na.m. to 7 p.m. and from 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Friday in the HGA Gallery at\nRapson Hall, 89 Church Street SE, Minneapolis. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sablan\u2019s own journey in the field of architecture prompted\nher to tackle issues related to lack of representation, as well as the\ndetrimental effects that misplaced architecture has on BIPOC communities. A\nstrong advocate of betterment for everyone, she promotes the fact that greater\ndiversity enriches all our lives. The exhibition features projects as well as\nbiographical interviews with selected participants. GMD is delighted to be a\nstop on this international exhibition series, which has been seen by over\n35,000 people since it began in 2017. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Participants include Dunwoody Bachelor of Architecture\ngraduate Celina Nelson, \u201918, along with Kristine Anderson, Tammy Angaran,\nAbimbola Asojo, Alicia Belton, Tu-Anh Bui Johnson, Trevor Bullen, Nina\nEbbighausen, James Garrett jr., Tasoulla Hadjiyanni, Damaris Hollingsworth,\nKaren Lu, Joy Martin, Jody McGuire, Jennifer Newsom, Heather Novak-Peterson,\nMary Springer, and Lyssa Washington.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

About Trevor Bullen<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Bullen was named Dean of the new School of Design at\nDunwoody College this past summer. In this role, Bullen will bring together\nthree of the College\u2019s sought-after design-focused programs: Architecture<\/a>, Interior Design<\/a>, and Graphic Design<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A broadly experienced architect, with more than 25 years of\nprofessional practice, Bullen brings to Dunwoody significant international\nexperience; having worked on a wide range of architecture, landscape\narchitecture and planning projects in Europe, the Caribbean, and the United\nStates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A graduate of the architecture program at City College of\nNew York, Bullen went on to receive his Master of Architecture from Harvard\nUniversity, followed by his Master of Studies \u2013 Interdisciplinary Design of the\nBuilt Environment from Cambridge University in the United Kingdom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Throughout his career Bullen has remained active in\nacademia. He has taught architectural design at the Boston Architectural\nCollege, the City College of New York as well as the University of Minnesota,\nand is a frequent guest critic at schools of architecture nationwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2000, Bullen founded the Caribbean Office of Co-Operative\nArchitecture (COCOA) in Grenada, where he is originally from. Under his\nleadership, COCOA went on to become an award-winning architecture and planning\nconsultancy, which successfully completed more than 30 residential, commercial,\nand institutional projects, including Grenada\u2019s new House of Parliament. The\nwork of his firm has been published extensively in journals and books as well\nas being exhibited at the 2021 Architecture Biennale in Venice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Most recently he was a Senior Associate and Director of\nOperations at Snow Kreilich Architects, the recipient of the 2018 AIA\nArchitecture Firm Award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With a focus on collaboration and interdisciplinary\nunderstanding, along with community engagement and social responsibility, Bullen\nwill continue to strengthen Dunwoody\u2019s design programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
