Dunwoody College of Technology\u2019s Bachelor of Architecture program was recently accepted to join the Integrated Path to Architectural Licensure (IPAL)<\/a> initiative, which offers students the opportunity to earn an architecture license upon graduation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWith a\ntwo plus three stackable degree format, Dunwoody\u2019s Bachelor of Architecture\nalready provides one of the shortest paths to licensure in Minnesota,\u201d said\nArchitecture Program Director Maura Rogers. \u201cOur acceptance in the IPAL program\nnot only solidifies that, but further demonstrates the value and practicality\nof a Dunwoody Architecture degree.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Led by the National Council of Architectural Registration\nBoards (NCARB), IPAL is an accelerated pathway that enables students to\njump-start their career by completing licensure requirements while earning a\ndegree. Becoming an architect in the United States typically takes about 12\nyears, and involves earning an architecture degree, reporting professional\nexperience, and passing the licensing exam. Although, this timeframe can be\nshortened by incorporating these three requirements within existing curricula.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In most cases, aspiring architects are not eligible to take\nthe Architect Registration Examination\u00ae (ARE\u00ae) until after college\u2014which makes\nIPAL an attractive choice for motivated students from various backgrounds and\nexperience levels. Students are also encouraged to complete the Architectural\nExperience Program\u00ae (AXP\u00ae) while in school, which provides a framework for\nearning real-world experience across a variety of areas. In addition to\nstreamlining the path to licensure, IPAL programs help strengthen the\nrelationship between schools and architecture firms, as they partner to secure\nfull-time positions for students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dunwoody College is the first Minnesota school to be\naccepted into the IPAL community. To date, more than 600 students are enrolled\nin 28 Bachelor of Architecture and Master of Architecture IPAL programs\nnationwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
