Dunwoody College of Technology is excited to announce that\nTrevor Bullen, AIA has been named Dean of the new School of Design at the\nCollege. In this new role, Bullen will bring together three of the College\u2019s\nsought-after design-focused programs: Architecture, Interior Design, and\nGraphic Design.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Taking on this position will also allow Bullen to combine\nhis experience and expertise in the architecture field with his passion for\nimpacting future professionals and the community through education. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI am so happy to be joining the Dunwoody family at such an\nexciting time,\u201d Bullen said. \u201cI look forward to contributing to Dunwoody\nCollege\u2019s more than 100 year legacy of hands-on learning and innovation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A broadly experienced architect, with more than 25 years of professional\npractice, Bullen brings to Dunwoody significant international experience;\nhaving worked on a wide range of architecture, landscape architecture and\nplanning projects in Europe, the Caribbean, and the United States. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI know Trevor will draw on his tremendous experience,\nbackground and professional network to transform the student experience in\nthese programs,\u201d Scott Stallman, Provost at Dunwoody College said. \u201cWith Trevor\nleading a group of talented Dunwoody faculty and administrators, more students\nwill realize their goal of graduating with a degree from Dunwoody College of\nTechnology.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A graduate of the architecture program at City College of\nNew York, Bullen went on to receive his Master of Architecture from Harvard\nUniversity, followed by his Master of Studies \u2013 Interdisciplinary Design of the\nBuilt Environment from Cambridge University in the United Kingdom. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Throughout his career Bullen has remained active in\nacademia. He has taught architectural design at the Boston Architectural\nCollege, the City College of New York as well as the University of Minnesota,\nand is a frequent guest critic at schools of architecture nationwide. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In 2000, Bullen founded the Caribbean Office of Co-Operative\nArchitecture (COCOA) in Grenada, where he is originally from. Under his leadership,\nCOCOA went on to become an award-winning architecture and planning consultancy,\nwhich successfully completed more than 30 residential, commercial, and\ninstitutional projects, including Grenada\u2019s new House of Parliament. The work\nof his firm has been published extensively in journals and books as well as\nbeing exhibited at the 2021 Architecture Biennale in Venice. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Most recently he was a Senior Associate and Director of\nOperations at Snow Kreilich Architects, the recipient of the 2018 AIA Architecture\nFirm Award. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
It was in this role that Bullen became involved with the\narchitecture program at Dunwoody, although he was first introduced to the\nprogram shortly after moving to the Twin Cities. Just before accepting the\nposition at Snow Kreilich, Bullen interviewed for a faculty position at the\nCollege. He kept track of the program after that, serving on review panels and\nstaying connected with the school. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOver the last few years, I\u2019ve had the opportunity to\nparticipate in design reviews at Dunwoody,\u201d Bullen said. \u201cI have seen firsthand\nthe impressive growth and maturation of the program. I\u2019ve been really impressed\nby dedication and tenacity of the faculty and students, and look forward to\nworking with them to build on their success.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As someone who enjoys helping other people succeed, Bullen\nsaid Dunwoody felt like a place where he could make an impact, so when the Dean\nposition came up it was an opportunity he couldn\u2019t say no to. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI really began to see this a way of having a larger impact,\nparticularly in the industry, because I know that disparities exist and that\nrepresentation matters,\u201d Bullen said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Bullen said he appreciates Dunwoody\u2019s connection to the\nprofession and the direct line between what is being taught and what is needed\nin the field. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI think that being able to bring people into their\nprofessions with the tools they need on day one is something that will continue\nto be the focus of the school,\u201d he said. \u201cLearning by doing is important. It\u2019s\nimportant to the way in which we learn. Design fields are a hands-on endeavor.\u201d\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The focus on collaboration and interdisciplinary\nunderstanding, along with community engagement and social responsibility will\ncontinue to be a strength and differentiator for the new School of Design under\nBullen\u2019s leadership. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHaving opportunities to have cross disciplinary learning\nwithin the School of Design will make our students that much more prepared in\nthe real world,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cTalented leaders like Trevor are attracted to Dunwoody\nbecause they believe in what Dunwoody does,\u201d Dr. Stallman said. \u201cWe prepare\nstudents for high paying jobs in high demand fields. Our students are ready to\nbegin work the first day they start and employers know that. I think Trevor\nreally understand what distinguishes a Dunwoody degree program from other\ncolleges.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
