{"id":5921,"date":"2021-07-06T07:01:14","date_gmt":"2021-07-06T12:01:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/?p=5921"},"modified":"2021-07-06T07:01:14","modified_gmt":"2021-07-06T12:01:14","slug":"dunwoody-launches-school-of-design","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/2021\/dunwoody-launches-school-of-design\/","title":{"rendered":"Dunwoody Launches School of Design"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>The new department will combine three of the College\u2019s design-centric programs: Architecture, Interior Design &amp; Graphic Design<\/em><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.dunwoody.edu\/\">Dunwoody College of Technology<\/a>, a\nprivate, non-profit institution and pioneer in technical education, today\nannounced the launch of its first <a href=\"https:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/design\/\">School of Design<\/a>.\nUniquely structured to provide students with a combination of technical\nexpertise and creative practice, the new school is a combination of Dunwoody\u2019s\nsought-after design-focused programs \u2013 architecture, interior design and\ngraphic design.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dunwoody&#8217;s design education focuses on\nstrong technical skills with an understanding of industry best practices in\norder to maximize each student\u2019s creativity. Coursework is project-based, with\na focus on the entire creative process, from research and ideation through\nfinal production. Students learn how to work with clients in order to achieve\nthe best innovative solution within a given budget and goals for each project.\nThe faculty has decades of experience as working professionals, giving students\nthe opportunity to learn sought-after skills from people who know first-hand\nwhat it\u2019s like in the industry. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur students are\ncreators, makers, designers, and doers and Dunwoody has a long history of\nexcelling in design-forward programs,\u201d said President Rich Wagner. \u201cAs we\nlooked to the future, we knew the time was right to embrace that legacy and\nbring together our key design programs to create the new School of Design.\nCombined, these programs will produce collaborators and problem solvers;\ngraduates who are prepared to make a lasting contribution in the design fields\nand our built environment.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To lead the new school, <a href=\"https:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/2021\/experienced-leader-and-architect-will-lead-the-new-school-of-design-at-dunwoody-college\/\">Trevor Bullen, AIA<\/a>, is stepping into the role of\u00a0 academic dean for the School of Design, effective immediately. Bullen brings more than 25 years of professional experience, having worked on a wide range of architecture including landscape architecture and international planning projects in Europe, the Caribbean and the United States. Most recently, Bullen was a senior associate and director of operations at Snow Kreilich Architects, which received the 2018 AIA Architecture Firm Award. From 2000 to 2016, Bullen led an award-winning architecture and planning studio on the island of Grenada, completing more than 30 built projects. Bullen has remained active in academia during his time in the industry, teaching architectural design at the Boston Architectural College, the City College of New York, and the University of Minnesota &#8211; Twin Cities \u2013 as well as being a frequent guest critic at schools of architecture nationwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The college\u2019s new Director of Architecture, <a href=\"https:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/2021\/architect-maura-rogers-will-lead-dunwoodys-architecture-programs\/\">Maura Roger, AIA, NCARB, LEED GA<\/a> will also take an integral role in advancing Dunwoody\u2019s programs. Most recently, Rogers has been working in public services and alternative delivery method design-builds. She brings a wealth of experience to the new role \u2013 including an expansive career in the architecture field that has encompassed residential design, technical drafting, urban planning, project management, and public sector projects. At Dunwoody, Rogers will oversee both the two-year Architectural Drafting &amp; Design program, as well as the +3 Bachelor of Architecture degree program. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/2021\/korrin-howard-will-lead-two-design-programs-for-dunwoody-college\/\">Korrin Howard<\/a> will also join the School of Design as the Director of both the Interior Design and Graphic Design programs. For the past 16 years, Howard has applied her experience as a designer and public artist to inspire students in the classroom.
