Because it is a manufacturer-specific program, Dunwoody’s\nTTEN (Toyota\u2019s Technician Training & Education Network) degree tends to\nattract passionate, focused students. Daniel Ortez is no exception–so much so\nthat he was selected to be the Academic Excellence Award recipient for the\nAutomotive Department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ortez’s path to Dunwoody was straightforward. He’s always\nhad a knack for hands-on work so while attending St. Paul’s Central Senior High\nSchool, he decided to take automotive classes with instructor Matt Lijewski.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Matt\u2019s program helped me learn about cars and repairs\nfrom the ground up, and really helped me discover where my passion lies, and I\nwould not be where I am at today without him,” Ortez said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From there, the decision to enroll at Dunwoody was obvious.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I chose Dunwoody for the fact that the reputation\nstands for itself,” Ortez said. “If you\u2019re in pursuit of better\neducation, and you excel with your hands on skills, it is almost a no-brainer\nwith the resources they have on hand.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Toyota in-depth<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Ortez chose the TTEN program because he’s passionate about\nToyota’s vehicles, including their reputation for quality, and wanted to focus on\nstudying them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“In the TTEN program we dive deeper into components and\nhow they work\/why they fail as opposed to learning just how to replace a failed\npart,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ortez particularly enjoyed a unit covering the overhaul of\nmanual transmission and differentials. It was something he hadn’t been at all\nfamiliar with previously.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That passion came through in his dedication to his school\nwork, and he impressed the Automotive faculty from his first semester. He\nemerged as a leader in the classroom and brought a detail oriented,\nprofessional, inquisitive attitude to his work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“With his knowledge and respect of his peers he, on\nseveral occasions, brought to my attention other students needs and concerns so\nthat I could better serve them,\u201d said Jason Emrick, Senior Instructor,\nAutomotive Service Technology. “He made my job easier and helped improve\nall of his peers.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Toyota-filled\nfuture<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

“The most valuable lesson I have taken away from\nDunwoody is that you always have to be hungry to learn more,” Ortez said.\n“Wanting to keep learning will advance your knowledge and skills and will\nhelp you more than anything.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s good that Ortez has that attitude because his journey with\nToyota isn’t yet complete.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Upon graduating I will be training under a Master Diagnostic\nTechnician, which is the highest [Toyota] certification you can get, so having\nthe opportunity to soak in the knowledge of someone who\u2019s been around the block\nis what I look forward to most,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Master Diagnostic Technician certification is Ortez’s\neventual goal, and he looks forward to continuing to build his knowledge of\nToyota’s vehicles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also hopes to eventually save up and open his own service\nshop, especially as it will give him the opportunity to provide repairs for his\nfamily, friends, and members of his community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the immediate future his focus is all work \u2014 and\ntraveling on vacations. Or as he says, “work hard, play harder!”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
