Rex Vanyo remembers exactly when he first heard about Dunwoody College<\/a>. He was in the second grade and an older student explained that Dunwoody wasn\u2019t really like other colleges. Instead it was a college where you went when you wanted to learn how to do something. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

That conversation was something that stuck with him. So when\nit came time to decide what he wanted to do after high school, Vanyo knew that\nfour years in business school just wasn\u2019t it. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 \u201cOne of my best\nfriends, his dad is a general contractor,\u201d he said. \u201cHe\u2019s in residential\nconstruction and builds custom homes. I\u2019ve seen all these different houses that\nhe has built and that\u2019s what I want to do.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With that in mind, Vanyo enrolled in the Construction Project Management<\/a> program, and will graduate next spring with his Associate of Applied Science degree. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eventually, Vanyo wants to own his own residential\nconstruction business. In the meantime, he is enjoying his classes at Dunwoody.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019ve never felt that there hasn\u2019t been somebody there to\nhelp me,\u201d he said.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vanyo is one of more than 100 students to receive the Shamrock\nScholarship this year. The goal of the scholarship is to expand the workforce\npipeline by providing academic support for students studying construction sciences\nand building technologies, engineering, and manufacturing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt was the greatest feeling,\u201d Vanyo said about receiving the scholarship. \u201cThe weight just lifted off my shoulders. We weren\u2019t wealthy growing up, so this meant a whole lot to me. My Mom was also very excited and proud.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
