Josue Rendon has always had an interest in the construction industry. But growing up in San Pedro Sula, Cortes, Honduras prevented him from pursuing that passion.<\/p>\n
\u201cSince I was a kid, I\u2019ve always been curious about how things are built,\u201d Rendon said. \u201cBut I couldn\u2019t work in construction down in my homeland due to the fact that it doesn\u2019t pay well.\u201d<\/p>\n
So when Rendon learned he had the opportunity to attend Dunwoody and pursue a well-paying, managerial career in Construction Project Management, he immediately accepted.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was excited about Dunwoody because of the College\u2019s reputation,\u201d Rendon explained. \u201cI liked that I had the option to study at night and still be a full-time student.\u201d<\/p>\n
The good news continued when Rendon learned he had also received Dunwoody\u2019s Construction Careers Pathway (CCP) scholarship. The CCP is a Dunwoody scholarship designed to prepare high potential but underserved students for lifelong careers in the construction industry.<\/p>\n
This scholarship would help him both financially and professionally. A key piece of the CCP scholarship includes pairing recipients with mentors in the industry they will enter upon graduation.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe mentorship program has been helpful to me because it gives me an idea of what I\u2019m up against,\u201d Rendon explained. \u201cIt means a lot to get to talk to people that are in positions I will soon be in.\u201d<\/p>\n
The mentorship program has also played a key role in helping him determine what career path within Construction Project Management he is most interested in.<\/p>\n
\u201cBecause of the mentorship program, I have learned that I want to be a superintendent \u2014 and then a project manager in time,\u201d he said. \u201cI like being in the field, getting the work done, and using this knowledge to be a better manager.\u201d<\/p>\n
Now in his second year, Rendon is beginning to feel ready for what\u2019s next.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m currently working at Knutson Construction,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd when I graduate, I hope to get a full-time job in the office\/field and start the next phase of my life plan.\u201d<\/p>\n
