And those very advancements are being integrated in the Dunwoody classroom at the same time they are debuting on the showroom floor.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-3807 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Dunwoody3833-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"474\" height=\"316\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Dunwoody3833-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Dunwoody3833-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Dunwoody3833-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Dunwoody3833.jpg 2000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 474px) 100vw, 474px\" \/><\/p>\n<h6>Automotive: not the &#8220;dirty&#8221; job it used to be<\/h6>\n<p class=\"p1\">Anyone who has gotten behind the wheel of a new vehicle can attest to the impressive array of high-tech features and new technologies. For many of us, driving our cars is more like operating a computer \u2013 only in reality it\u2019s more like operating 40 computers all at once.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Stephan Reinarts, Dean of Automotive Programs at Dunwoody College of Technology, leads the team of instructors in charge of ensuring that today\u2019s automotive students have the skills and knowledge needed to be successful in today\u2019s high-tech automotive world.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cThe most important tool our students use each day, isn\u2019t a wrench \u2013 it\u2019s a computer,\u201d Reinarts said, stressing that today\u2019s automotive service field is not the \u201cdirty\u201d job it used to be.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-3808 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Dunwoody3809-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"374\" height=\"249\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Dunwoody3809-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Dunwoody3809-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Dunwoody3809-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Dunwoody3809.jpg 2000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 374px) 100vw, 374px\" \/>Today\u2019s students aren\u2019t just changing oil and replacing timing belts. They are dealing with lane departure sensors, obstacle detection devices, and infotainment and navigation systems. They are preparing for autonomous vehicles and working with alternative fuels, such as compressed natural gas. And all of this technology needs to work together in a complex, integrated network housed in each individual automobile.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cAll of the technology involved with self-driving vehicles \u2013 we are teaching that now,\u201d Reinarts said. \u201cAnd that new technology is subject to failure. So today\u2019s technicians need to navigate complex software and technologies to diagnose, repair and maintain those systems.\u201d<\/p>\n<h6>Manufacturer relationships play vital role at Dunwoody<\/h6>\n<p class=\"p1\">Keeping pace with all of these new advancements wouldn\u2019t be possible without the strong manufacturer relationships Dunwoody has built and maintained for more than a century. In fact, in addition to Dunwoody Automotive\u2019s flagship program, Automotive Service Technology, Dunwoody offers automotive service training for five different manufacturers: Audi, Honda\/Acura, Mopar (Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Dodge, FIAT, Jeep, Ram), Subaru and Toyota\/Lexus.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">These relationships mean that Dunwoody students receive training on \u2014 and have access to \u2014 new features and vehicles as soon as they become available on the market.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">It also means that Dunwoody\u2019s curriculum is being continuously updated to keep pace with industry change.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-3810 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Dunwoody2970-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"368\" height=\"245\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Dunwoody2970-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Dunwoody2970-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Dunwoody2970-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Dunwoody2970.jpg 2000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 368px) 100vw, 368px\" \/>In addition to the automotive service technology side, Dunwoody\u2019s collision program is another area of rapid change and new developments. In fact, Dunwoody\u2019s waterborne paint booth \u2013 which is more cost-effective and environmentally friendly \u2013 is a new feature in its state-of-the-industry shop.<\/p>\n<h6>Technology advancements show no sign of slowing down<\/h6>\n<p class=\"p1\">Reinarts said that one of the biggest advancements affecting the automotive service field right now is the increasing ability technicians have to \u201ccommunicate\u201d with vehicles. Technicians now have the ability to communicate remotely with vehicles using wireless technologies.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cOur students can now receive information and analyze vehicles via their phones and tablets,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">This will enable tomorrow\u2019s technicians to diagnose \u2013 and in some cases perform repairs to a vehicle \u2013 without the customer being inconvenienced by bringing their vehicle into a repair facility.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">But even though the technology might change, the students best suited to a career in automotive service are still persistent, curious, creative problem-solvers.
