{"id":3649,"date":"2018-05-24T08:13:37","date_gmt":"2018-05-24T13:13:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/?p=3649"},"modified":"2018-05-24T08:18:40","modified_gmt":"2018-05-24T13:18:40","slug":"class-of-2018-joins-proud-history","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/2018\/class-of-2018-joins-proud-history\/","title":{"rendered":"Dunwoody Class of 2018 joins proud history"},"content":{"rendered":"<h5><strong>85% of Dunwoody\u2019s graduating class already employed in their field<\/strong><\/h5>\n<hr \/>\n<p>On Thursday, May 17, more than 480 students walked across the stage and joined Dunwoody\u2019s long and proud history of motivated and determined alumni.<\/p>\n<p>Dunwoody\u2019s 2017-18 Commencement Ceremony took place at the Minneapolis Convention Center.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-3650 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/Dunwoody_157-1024x681.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"474\" height=\"315\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/Dunwoody_157-1024x681.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/Dunwoody_157-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/Dunwoody_157-768x511.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 474px) 100vw, 474px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Rob Borchardt, Associate Director of Career Services, reported that at the time of Commencement, 85% of the graduating class was already employed in their field.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur core mission is to ensure students find work in their field upon graduating,\u201d Borchardt said. \u201cDunwoody staff and faculty are committed to ensuring our students are highly employable. This year was no different. The 2018 graduation ceremony marked the third degree she has received from Dunwoody.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDuring my time at Dunwoody, I have seen the school expand, in terms of programs and footprint,\u201d Madison said. \u201cI have seen community outreach become more deliberate. And I have seen collaboration among the different departments become a priority. All of these changes have taught me that not only is change inevitable, but it is also necessary if progress is to be made.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Madison also shared eight important lessons she has learned throughout her professional and college career, urging graduates to do the same:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ol>\n<li>Be grateful for every day, and show appreciation.<\/li>\n<li>Ask for help when needed. It teaches humility.<\/li>\n<li>Help others whenever possible. It builds character.<\/li>\n<li>Build a strong support system and rely on it.<\/li>\n<li>Challenge yourself, your thoughts, and your beliefs.<\/li>\n<li>Don&#8217;t procrastinate.<\/li>\n<li>Embrace challenges because a challenge is an opportunity yet to be explored.<\/li>\n<li>No matter what, never give up. He also applauded the Class of 2018 on their accomplishments and shared what they can expect now because of their degrees.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe education you have received at Dunwoody gives you a competitive advantage in the marketplace,\u201d he said. \u201cYou will come to business better prepared with a hands-on applied learning experience. At Dunwoody, your educators have worked in the field they are teaching\u2026you have had the opportunity to utilize state of the art equipment and tools. And because of your hard work and Dunwoody\u2019s partnership with industry, you likely find yourself already employed, or soon to be.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou are very lucky,\u201d he continued. \u201cYou are graduating at a time where the need for you in business is at an all-time high. You are in that proverbial right place at the right time with the right degree. Employers tell us how far ahead Dunwoody graduates are compared to other programs. When you tell people that you attended Dunwoody, you\u2019ll hear how wonderful the school is, when I talk about Dunwoody I hear the same. And all of this is because of Dunwoody\u2019s reputation.
