{"id":3417,"date":"2018-03-21T14:00:03","date_gmt":"2018-03-21T19:00:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.dunwoody.edu\/blog\/?p=3417"},"modified":"2018-03-21T14:50:02","modified_gmt":"2018-03-21T19:50:02","slug":"dunwoody-student-credits-ycap-for-his-bright-future","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/2018\/dunwoody-student-credits-ycap-for-his-bright-future\/","title":{"rendered":"Dunwoody student credits YCAP for his bright future"},"content":{"rendered":"<h5>Aneyso Tahir will graduate with an Automated Systems &amp; Robotics degree in May and keep the job he landed\u00a0earlier this year\u00a0at Honeywell.<\/h5>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Aneyso Tahir won\u2019t receive his degree until May, but his Dunwoody education has already landed him a career in the tactical guidance arena.<\/p>\n<p>Tahir, who is finishing up his Associate of Applied Science degree in <a href=\"http:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/manufacturing\/automated-systems-robotics\/\">Automated Systems &amp; Robotics<\/a> this spring, was recently hired as an electro-mechanical technician for Honeywell.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3418 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/Dunwoody1551.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1500\" height=\"1000\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In his new position, Tahir is working with gyroscopes, which are used in navigation systems for manned and unmanned aircrafts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s really interesting,\u201d Tahir said, adding that Honeywell was one of his top two picks for employers.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s also an opportunity he credits YCAP\u2014<a href=\"http:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/ycap\/\">Dunwoody\u2019s Youth Career Awareness Program<\/a>\u2014in helping him find.<\/p>\n<h6><strong>Deciding Dunwoody <\/strong><\/h6>\n<p>A hands-on learner, Tahir became interested in electronics after taking a class in high school, but it wasn\u2019t until his senior year that Dunwoody became an option.<\/p>\n<p>Tahir learned about YCAP after attending a Dunwoody&#8217;s<a href=\"http:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/admissions\/open-house-rsvp\/\">\u00a0Open House<\/a>. And the program\u2014which included a 6-week summer college prep camp that introduced students to different technical career paths\u2014 was exactly what Tahir was looking for.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I got accepted into YCAP, it was a turning point for me,\u201d Tahir said.<\/p>\n<p>Born in Kenya, Tahir moved to America with his family when he was in the second grade. He explained his family came to this Country for more opportunities and a better life. They also stressed the importance of education and encouraged Tahir to earn a college degree.<\/p>\n<p>Tahir had always been a good student and after attending the college prep camp, he knew that Dunwoody\u2019s focused and active learning environment was right for him.<\/p>\n<h6>The right fit<\/h6>\n<p>\u201cWhat I\u2019ve liked about Dunwoody is how they prepare you for your career,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd once you graduate, you are ready to start working.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tahir also appreciates the college\u2019s rigorous curriculum.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile I was in high school some of my older friends were attending college and taking their generals,\u201d Tahir recalls. \u201cThey had so much time on their hands. I thought, you shouldn\u2019t have this much free time if you are in college!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>To his enjoyment, free time is something Tahir doesn\u2019t have much of these days. But when he isn\u2019t attending class or working fulltime, you can find Tahir playing soccer with his friends.<\/p>\n<p>Tahir believes that YCAP helped give him the tools he needed to succeed during his college career at Dunwoody.
