The latest month: how to interview for a job.<\/h5>\n<hr \/>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-2839\" src=\"http:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/IMG_0989-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_0989\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/IMG_0989-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/IMG_0989-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/IMG_0989.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>On Thursday, April 6, Dunwoody College of Technology Youth Career Awareness Program (YCAP) students brushed off their r\u00e9sum\u00e9s and prepared for mock interview sessions with the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.colrc.org\/\">City of Lakes Rotary Club.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Rotary Club has been conducting mock interviews with YCAP students for several years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is one of the Rotary Club\u2019s projects that they really take great pride in,\u201d said Associate Director of Special Initiatives, YCAP Peggy Quam. \u201cIt\u2019s their way to give back and stay connected to YCAP.\u201d<\/p>\n<h6>YCAP students find mock interviews a valuable learning experience<\/h6>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2842 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/IMG_1036-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_1036\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/IMG_1036-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/IMG_1036-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/IMG_1036.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>The mock interviews took place in the College\u2019s Decker Auditorium where each student was paired up with a Rotary Club member for 25 minutes. During that time, students conducted an informational interview and then collected feedback from their partner on their skills. Students interviewed with three different professionals throughout the evening.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was a really good learning experience for us,\u201d YCAP student Donald Posterick said. \u201cIt was good for getting used to how to act in an interview and strengthening the skills I need to talk to people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-2840\" src=\"http:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/IMG_0979-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_0979\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/IMG_0979-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/IMG_0979-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/IMG_0979.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>YCAP Student Erik Ernst had only done a few interviews in the past, and those interviewers hadn\u2019t offered any feedback. \u201cSo it was interesting to hear what I had done well and what I needed to work on in the future,\u201d Ernst said.<\/p>\n<h6>Preparing for a mock interview<\/h6>\n<p>To prepare, students were asked to refine their r\u00e9sum\u00e9 with Associate Director of <a href=\"http:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/students\/career-services\/\">Career Services<\/a> Rob Borchardt.<\/p>\n<p>Borchardt works one-on-one with students every day to make sure they feel confident for their upcoming interviews and their r\u00e9sum\u00e9s are attractive to employers.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-2841\" src=\"http:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/IMG_0982-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_0982\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/IMG_0982-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/IMG_0982-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/IMG_0982.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>\u201cA well-written r\u00e9sum\u00e9 is the key to a job interview, so it\u2019s vital that students are able to communicate their skills, experience, and strengths,\u201d Borchardt said. \u201cDunwoody students are top candidates and a great resume provides a major leg up in any of our students\u2019 job searches.\u201d<\/p>\n<h6>About YCAP<\/h6>\n<p>Since 1988, Dunwoody College\u2019s YCAP has helped more than 1,300 students gain access to a college education.<\/p>\n<p>YCAP\u2019s mission is to enhance the career opportunities of underrepresented youth by empowering them to graduate from high school and earn a degree from Dunwoody.<\/p>\n<p>YCAP students complete a six-week paid summer internship filled with career exploration, field trips, and college-readiness courses.
