{"id":2557,"date":"2016-11-03T12:53:01","date_gmt":"2016-11-03T17:53:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.dunwoody.edu\/blog\/?p=2557"},"modified":"2016-11-03T12:53:26","modified_gmt":"2016-11-03T17:53:26","slug":"iise-student-chapter-holds-industry-panel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/2016\/iise-student-chapter-holds-industry-panel\/","title":{"rendered":"IISE Student Chapter holds industry panel"},"content":{"rendered":"<h5>Dunwoody College of Technology\u2019s Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers (IISE) Student Chapter recently held a panel to discuss career paths and experiences in the engineering field.<\/h5>\n<hr \/>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-2558\" src=\"http:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/IMG_0727-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"IISE meeting in Holden Center\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/IMG_0727-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/IMG_0727-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/IMG_0727.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Dunwoody\u2019s IISE Student Chapter started in March 2015 with a goal to connect students with professionals in the industry and expose them to hands-on experiences.<\/p>\n<p>As a part of this initiative, the Chapter holds two to three events a year to help <a href=\"http:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/manufacturing\/industrial-engineering-technology\/\">Industrial Engineering Technology<\/a> students network with industry professionals and learn how to do things like write a r\u00e8sum\u00e8, <a href=\"http:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/2015\/hr-professionals-give-students-an-inside-look-at-the-hiring-process\/\">interview for jobs<\/a>, and more.<\/p>\n<h6>IISE hosts panel of engineers<\/h6>\n<p>In addition to learning about how to get a job in industry, IISE also works to give students an idea of what to expect on the job after graduation.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-2559\" src=\"http:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/IMG_0725-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"IISE holds industry panel in Holden Center\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/IMG_0725-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/IMG_0725-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/IMG_0725.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>To do this, the Chapter recently invited a panel of five engineering professionals to speak during their meeting. These working engineers \u2013 made up of two engineers involved with the IISE Twin Cities Professional Chapter and three Dunwoody graduates \u2013 spoke about their career paths and experiences.<\/p>\n<p>The panel consisted of:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Nate Andrican, Boston Scientific, IISE Twin Cities Professional Chapter<\/li>\n<li>Chris Heinze, UTC Aerospace Systems, IISE Twin Cities Professional Chapter<\/li>\n<li>Dan Burns, St. Jude Medical, Dunwoody graduate<\/li>\n<li>Mandi Drevlow, Design Ready Controls, Dunwoody graduate<\/li>\n<li>Chai Thao, Minnetronix, Dunwoody graduate<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cThe coolest part was hearing five different people that all graduated with the same or similar degrees that do completely different things in industry,\u201d Dustin Szumowski, IISE Student Chapter President, said. \u201cWhat I took from it is that if you get a job in industry that you don\u2019t like, there\u2019s a lot of options out there, and you can keep searching.\u201d<\/p>\n<h6><strong>Industrial Engineering Technology at Dunwoody<\/strong><\/h6>\n<p>Industrial Engineering Technology allows students with associate\u2019s degrees in manufacturing-related fields to earn an ABET-accredited Bachelor of Science and grow in their fields as engineers.<\/p>\n<p>This program offers course instruction at night, allowing students to work full-time while completing their degree.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/manufacturing\/industrial-engineering-technology\/\">Learn more about Industrial Engineering Technology<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dunwoody College of Technology\u2019s Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers (IISE) Student Chapter recently held a panel to discuss career paths and experiences in the engineering field.
