So, she chose to put that money towards set renovation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A perfect match<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe only had six weeks to get ideas together and the money spent,\u201d Jackett said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1860\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1860\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1860\" src=\"http:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Screen-Shot-2016-03-29-at-8.30.16-AM-300x166.png\" alt=\"Photo of existing NWCT set\" width=\"300\" height=\"166\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Screen-Shot-2016-03-29-at-8.30.16-AM-300x166.png 300w, https:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Screen-Shot-2016-03-29-at-8.30.16-AM.png 583w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1860\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">NWCT set prior to remodel.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cKnowing design is not in my wheelhouse and having a limited budget, I asked my boss if I could reach out to students to work with. I\u2019ve had good experiences working with students in the past. I love their energy and eagerness.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When searching for the students, Jackett said she \u201cnever looked beyond Dunwoody.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve always heard good things about the school, so it was the first and only one I emailed,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>And when senior Interior Design students Alyx Paschke and Angelica Sedano learned of the project, they knew they had to be involved.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSet design is something that has always interested me,\u201d Paschke said. \u201cI\u2019m going to grad school for themed entertainment design so this project was very closely aligned with what I am hoping to do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>The design process<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Due to the wide variety of shows offered by NWCT\u2014which includes talk shows, sports shows, children shows, cooking lessons and craft demonstrations\u2014Paschke said, \u201cversatility was a major aspect in the design concept.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1861\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1861\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1861\" src=\"http:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Screen-Shot-2016-03-18-at-8.37.38-AM-300x196.png\" alt=\"Photo of existing NWCT sets and photo of what they would like after the remodel.\" width=\"300\" height=\"196\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Screen-Shot-2016-03-18-at-8.37.38-AM-300x196.png 300w, https:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Screen-Shot-2016-03-18-at-8.37.38-AM-1024x668.png 1024w, https:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Screen-Shot-2016-03-18-at-8.37.38-AM.png 1095w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1861\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Paschke and Sedano used SketchUp\u20143D modeling software they use for class projects at Dunwoody\u2014 to generate ideas for the new sets.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cWe decided it would give us the most for our budget to repurpose and reuse many of the existing sets and set elements,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>And while the students did have complete design freedom, there were some limitations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe sets had to be mobile, lightweight, and easily assembled and deconstructed for transportation to and from the set storage warehouse,\u201d Paschke said. \u201cWe also had an extremely small budget for all of the sets, construction supplies, finishes, furniture and d\u00e9cor, which allowed us to get creative.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Paschke and Sedano used SketchUp\u20143D modeling software they use for class projects at Dunwoody\u2014to design the sets. Here they finalized the set colors, furniture pieces and design budget. Then, they set out to purchase the supplies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt felt a little bit like an HGTV show,\u201d Paschke laughed as she described their overflowing carts at Ikea.<\/p>\n<p>In an effort to keep the costs down, the students also approached several industry partners for help\u2014and were successful in doing so.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sherwin-williams.com\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"  wp-image-1862 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/SET-6-sized-300x136.jpg\" alt=\"Example of what a set would look like after the remodel\" width=\"315\" height=\"143\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/SET-6-sized-300x136.jpg 300w, https:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/SET-6-sized.jpg 700w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 315px) 100vw, 315px\" \/>Sherwin-Williams<\/a> agreed to donate the paint for the sets, and representatives from Shakopee <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lowes.com\/\">Lowes Home Improvement<\/a> provided budget guidance. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.primegc.com\/\">Prime General Contractors<\/a> also helped with transportation.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks to their generosity, the two students were able to stay under-budget and upgrade six existing sets and the station\u2019s kitchen.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The final product<\/strong><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1863\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1863\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1863\" src=\"http:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/IMG_2450-sized-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"Photo of one of the final sets\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/IMG_2450-sized-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/IMG_2450-sized.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1863\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">One of the final sets designed by Paschke and Sedano.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>For Paschke and Sedano, however, the best part of the process was actually seeing the project come to life.<\/p>\n<p>Paschke explained: \u201cAs students, a lot of the time we design and we do the 3D renderings\u2014but that\u2019s as far as we get. So it was really fun to see our work actually constructed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was our first real project like this so it was a little intimidating,\u201d Sedano said. \u201cBut we worked together with everyone really well. I can\u2019t wait for the next opportunity to work with them and recommend them to others.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/dunwoody.edu\/pdfs\/NWCT_marapr16_newsletter.pdf\">According to NWCT\u2019s latest newsletter<\/a>, this is the Station\u2019s first remodel since the media center opened in 1998.
